Welcome to Going California

Hi there, I’m Sacha! I’m here to help you navigate your way through California with my travel blog. Whether you’re looking to explore Southern California, Northern California or even Central California, I’ll give you advice on where to visit, what to do, where to stay and where to eat.
I’ll share with you stories of my own experiences in California. I’ll tell you about places in California that you might not know about. I’ll share with you events that’s going on in California, too.
I’ll touch on the regular tourist attractions, but I’ll give you tips on when to go to beat the crowds. I’ll give you an insider’s look popular destinations and I plan on introducing to you the places that are considered hidden gems. That’s what I’m really here for!
City of Angels
Since I’m a native Angeleno, I’m going to talk about Los Angeles extensively!! In fact, I will start with LA, since I know a lot about where I live.
I’ll tell you about my favorite places and some are even tourist attractions. I’ll give you tips on how to enjoy them better. I’ll tell you where to park, where to eat, what to look for, what to stay away from around that particular attraction.
There’s way more to LA than just Hollywood Blvd. Los Angeles is very large with a lot of neighborhoods & a lot of great suburbs.
One being Pasadena. I grew up very close to Pasadena & there’s some great things to see and do in the city of roses. Other than the iconic Rose Bowl, I’ll also tell you about some special places in Pasadena.
I’ll also share some great hiking trails in Pasadena, which I believe are maybe the best in Southern California. I spent my summers as a teen hiking many of these trails.
There’s also the west side. Santa Monica and Malibu are popular destinations. While Santa Monica is a vibrant city, it’s my second favorite of the two.
Santa Monica pier is a MUST visit, though. Maybe the greatest pier in the country. Malibu is my favorite beach towns of all times. I’ll share with you the best beaches and restaurants in the area. Also, driving through Malibu Canyon is something you can’t miss doing. You’ll find the most gorgeous views!
Northern and Central California
One of the most beautiful cities on the planet, known as the City by the Bay, San Francisco!! The views, the neighborhoods, the foods, the bridge, the bay! You have to spend at least a few days just in the city.
I’ll talk about getting around the city by foot and trolley to make your life easy. Leave the car in the parking lot. Driving in San Francisco can sometimes be impossible!
I’ll talk about wine country with you all, as well. It’s an easy day trip from San Francisco. That of course, is Napa Valley. The world’s best wines and restaurants.
I’ll share with you the less traveled Sonoma Valley. The wines, just as spectacular, as well as the restaurants, shopping and hotels. The crowds are not quite as big as Napa, though Sonoma has gained in popularity.
A less popular region of California is Central California. Most tourists only discover Central California by driving from LA To San Francisco.
The middle of the state is mainly farm land and if you take the 5 highway up to San Francisco, you will see all the agriculture. It’s a faster trip than taking the coast highway, but it’s BORING!!
Take the 101 highway and you’ll take in the beauty of the central coast. Along the way, you’ll find great towns like Cambria and Paso Robles.
There are some amazing wineries in this region, as well. In fact, some of my favorite wineries are in Central California. You may be surprised to know that there are more wine regions other than Napa and Sonoma in California!
More to Southern California than Los Angeles
The city of LA is only a small part of So Cal. The beach communities in LA county and Orange County are among the nicest in the country.
I’ll go in depth about San Diego, as well our amazing deserts and not just Palm Springs. San Diego has a lot of nice beach communities that are less known.
I’m planning a trip with girlfriends down to the San Diego area. We’ll be visiting a less popular beach town that I’ll share with you.
Palm Springs is a regular vacation spot of mine. I’ll share stories and tips about the Palm Springs region. My husband happens to be an expert on desert exploration. I’ll have him blog on Joshua Tree and the Coachella valley. You’ll want to read his posts. Will sure to be very informative and interesting.
The Parks
California has probably the best national and state parks in the whole world. Yes, one being Yosemite.I’ll give you travel advice on how to enjoy Yosemite.
For instance, trails to look for and trails to stay away from, when to visit and also my family’s favorite secrets of the beautiful park.
Sequoia National Park is another treasured park that you might not have heard about. It’s not too far of a drive from Los Angeles. I’ll share with you my vacation experiences in Sequoia.
I’ll discuss other national parks and state parks around California, as well. There are many iconic spots in California, as well as secret spots throughout the state.
