A Place in The Sun – Experience Vintage Palm Springs!

The holidays are finally over and I’ve been gone from my blog for far too long! December was so hectic for me. I am a new high school mom and I am a soccer mom of nearly 10 years. I had no idea how chaotic finals week would be, during the high school soccer season. Oh and the holidays, too! I thought elementary school and middle school mixed with club soccer was a juggle, but I can get a job in a circus now!
Not to worry, I am not going to the circus. I still have too many places to talk about on GoingCalifornia.com, plus juggling my student-athlete continues! But, guess what? After all the December and holiday craziness, our family luckily escaped to our fave place, Palm Springs, to celebrate the New Year. We found the most wonderful gem in the desert. Let me tell you about our discovery, A Place in the Sun! True vintage Palm Springs!
A Place In The Sun, just a few minutes away from downtown Palm Springs and If you recognize the wonderful name, you might remember the movie called “A Place in The Sun”. Apparently, this garden hotel was built as a retreat for the people working on the movie, which was filmed in the 1950’s. Well, the vintage look and the vintage feel remains!
This hotel consists of a variety of 14 bungalows, most with living rooms, kitchens or kitchenettes and all with private walled patios. Our patio had a little yard, which was perfect for our dog, Holly. This hotel is beyond dog friendly, yay!
The pool was small, but the water was amazing, Saltwater and heated, the pool felt great during our chilly New Years stay. It wasn’t warm in Palm Springs, so their hot tub was so inviting and it was saltwater too!
There’s also a gazebo by the pool where you can barbecue. The gardens all around this one acred property were meticulously groomed. There’s even a putting green for the guests to enjoy. Gorgeous grounds!
I have to say, the bungalows really hit home for me and that’s because I really felt at home. The living room was so colorful and cozy. We had a kitchen which had all the amenities. Fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc. A small full-bathroom was very clean and was all that we needed.
The bedroom was comfortable and equipped with a cute little wall fireplace. I slept better there than I did at my own home. Not sure why, I think because I was away and finally relaxed. This place was just so homey and snuggly!
This little hotel isn’t fancy or trendy. If that’s what you’re looking for, you won’t find it here. What it is, is a nice family hotel. It’s a quiet, romantic place for couples. It’s a welcoming place for your pet to stay. The fee for your pet is very reasonable, too. The owners truly love animals and it shows.
I want to thank the owners for being so nice when we first arrived. They walked my daughter and dog to our bungalow, while we did the paperwork. They told my daughter to come borrow a movie from their large library of movies, which she happily did. The staff were all so warm and pleasant, too.
At the end of the day, that’s all I want from a vacation. I want to feel welcomed, feel comfortable and feel relaxed. I imagine the 1950’s was more like that. That’s what this sweet place did for us. I highly recommend this desert gem, A Place In The Sun. . Experience vintage Palm Springs and enjoy. Located at 750 E. San Lorenzo Rd. Palm Springs CA 92264. Phone 760-325-0254. Happy New Year Everyone!
